Think of a bullet-resistant vest designed for police and miltary, capable of defeating 5.56 and .308 full metal jacket rounds, and even AP sabot rounds, like Winchester/Olin's SLAP .308 and Bofors Carl Gustaf's XM995 5.56 and XM993 .308. Please realize that I'm not talking about a vest that utilizes a hard tactical chest plate. I'm talking about a vest whose entire surface, inlcluding front, back, and side panels, can withstand more than a standard level IV hard armor tactical plate, while remaining flexible. Sound too good to be true?
Well, it isn't. The technology is now here, and, in the Level IV protection variety, will probably be available by first quarter next year. Pinnacle Armor calls their new technology "Dragon Skin". Dragon Skin is essentially flexible hard armor, which, like I said, can cover the entire vest area, essentially turning the whole vest into one big, flexible level IV+ tactical plate. The rear panel on a standard concealment vest is level IIIa+, but, like I said, vests with front, back, and side Dragon Skin protection are also available. When I felt through the fabric of one of Pinnacle's vests, it felt like hard scales underneath, thus the company's moniker for it. The "scale" set-up, is the secret to Dragon Skin's flexibility. Looking at the big picture, what does all this mean? I'll tell you what it means, folks--game over. Now special operators, and even beat cops can have AP rifle round-defeating armor that weighs roughly the same as conventional body armor, while remaining just as comfortable, and just about as light. Pinnacle's technology is probably 10 to 15 years ahead of everything else currently out there.
