DefenseReview (DR) hasn’t reported on Daniel Defense (DD) products for quite some time, but when we stopped by their booth, we were intrigued by the DD MK18 (MIL-Spec+) pistol setup and the DD 32-round 5.56mm NATO (5.56x45mm NATO)/300 Blackout (300BLK) AR Mag. The DD 32-rounder is made using carbon fiber-infused poymer, so it should be pretty strong. It also allows you to easily seat a full 30 rounds into the gun (the DD MK18 in this case) with the bolt forward, without any extra size. So, that’s nice.

The Daniel Defense DD MK18 (MIL-Spec+) complete upper and lower receiver sports a 10.3″ cold hammer forged barrel made from chrome moly vanadium steel, as well as an “Enhanced Flared Magazine Well” for fast reloads/mag changes. And, it gives civilian tactical shooters the chance to own the semi-auto-only version of the battle-proven select-fire MK-18 SBR (Short Barreled Rifle) that’s been utilized by US military SOF (Special Operations Forces) assaulters/operators for years, and has achieved a venerable reputation. Pretty cool. That said, full-disclosure, DR prefers 11.5″-12.5″ for barrel length on a M4A1-type DGI (Direct Gas Impingement) AR SBR. However, the 10.3″-barreled MK18 still works, albeit a bit too close to the reliability precipice for our liking.

By the way, the magazine itself is interesting enough to Defense Review that we’ve chosen to provide all the info and specs on it for our readers. So, here ya’ go (from the DD website):

DD MAGAZINE®

The new DD Magazine is the only one worthy of the Daniel Defense name and is built with the same legendary quality and exacting standards as our world-class firearms. Its 32-round capacity for 5.56mm and 300 Blackout rounds is the most notable enhancement while maintaining the same size as industry-standard 30-round magazines. The DD Magazine surpasses the standard in strength and durability with its lightweight, cutting-edge carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer construction. An improved feed-lip design and an enhanced anti-tilt follower provide smooth, reliable feeding, while an impact-absorbing baseplate design adds to the magazine’s overall durability. The textured body gives the shooter a firm grip on the magazine while reloading in any situation, with or without gloves. For reliability, durability, ease of maintenance, and legendary Daniel Defense quality, go with the name you can trust. Ask for Daniel Defense.
