DefenseReview (DR) recently got some great news at SHOT Show 2017. Ryan Wells of Desert Tech (DT) showed us production-ready DT MDR (Micro Dynamic Rifle) 7.62mm NATO (7.62x51mm NATO) and DT MDR-C (Compact) bullpup 5.56mm NATO (5.56x45mm NATO) semi-auto-only combat/tactical rifle/carbine/SBR’s (Short Barreled Rifle), and shot a quick video for us. DR and many other people have been waiting several years now for this moment, so it was a very welcome one.

From what Mr. Wells told us, DT’s worked out the engineering on the guns, and is ready to go into production on it very soon, within the next few months. Assuming the MDR and MDR-C prove reliable, accurate and durable under adverse combat-type conditions at high round count, the guns should be winners. It’s DR’s understanding that select-fire/full-auto versions of the MDR and MDR-C will be available to military and law enforcement end users.

While we’re being AR fans here at DR, we also really like the DT MDR/MDR-C bullpup rifle/carbine/SBR concept and design, and think it’s definitely worth acquiring. Before we do, though, Defense Review would very much like DR writer/contributor and chief new-product tester Jeff Gurwitch to do a high-round-count T&E and review at some point. In the meantime, however, take a look at the accompanying photos and video we shot, and decide for yourself.
