Lauer Custom Weaponry has come out with an interesting hard-use black firearms finish for tactical weapons. It’s called DuraCoat.
DefRev hasn’t tried this finish out yet. To date, the only high-tech black finish the DefRev team has experience with so far is Birdsong’s Black-T, and we’ve all been very satisfied with it. I’ve had Black-T applied to my custom Novak/Wickmann Browning Hi-Power, my Beretta Model 70S .22 pistol, and my Nastoff .45 (1911). Something else would have to prove itself superior in rust/corrosion resistance, durability, AND lubricity, for us to switch. That said, DefRev is always…
on the look-out for newer and better coatings for hard-use.
The primary question we have at the moment is: Is DuraCoat self-lubricitous? Birdsong’s Black-T is, and that’s one of the primary things we like about it. Durability and rust/corrosion-resistance are both important, but lubricity is equally important to us, and we hope Duracoat incorporates this aspect.
