A few months ago, DefenseReview made a trip out to U.S. Ordnance, Inc. in Reno, Nevada to T&E their M60E4/Mk43 Mod1 Commando machine gun. We fired the weapon suppressed and unsuppressed. The silencer / sound suppressor on the weapon in one of the video clips is made by Badger Ordance. The U.S. Ordnance M60E4/Mk43 MOD 1 Commando machine gun is a highly modified and improved version the original Vietnam-era M60 machine gun that was developed to address and solve the original M60’s reliability, handling, size and weight problems. The M60E4 / Mk43 MOD1 is a 7.62x51mm NATO (7.62mm NATO) medium machine gun (MMG) a.k.a. general purpose machine gun (GPMG).
Anyway, we shot some video while we were out there, and we thought we’d share some of it with our readers.
The muzzle can (silencer/sound suppressor) attached to the M60E4/Mk43 Commando
in Video 2 is a John’s Guns R18 QD (Quick-Detach) suppressor (7.62mm NATO), possibly made from Inconel for high-heat resistance. We’ll research this (raw material). In any case, the R18 can (suppressor) cut down the noize considerably, and definitely resisted a lot of heat.
By the way, the gentleman I’m interviewing (unscripted and unrehearsed) in Videos 2 & 3 is Steve Helzer. Other than providing us with the inaccurate information on the suppressor, Steve did a fantastic job that day, and really took great care of us.
He went above and beyond. Defense Review would like to thank Steve (Helzer), Curtis Debord Sr., and the rest of the folks at U.S. Ordnance for letting us come out there to tour their facility and shoot their ammo at their company range. It was a lot of fun.
DefenseReview would also like to thank Sargon Koda of Xtreme Recall (Reno, Nevada) for assisting us with filming. All the shooter’s-perspective and weapon’s-perspective shots were accomplished via an Xtreme Recall low-profile wearable tactical video camera system. When you watch the videos, you’ll see that we had an Xtreme Recall micro video camera mounted on the gun/weapon and on me (the shooter). Notice how well the gun-mounted camera handled the recoil effects of the M60E4, no problem. Bottom line, if you’re looking for a high-quality, low-profile wearable tactical video camera system (micro video camera), or non-tactical wearable video camera for extreme outdoor use or just everyday use, DefenseReview highly recommends that you visit the Xtreme Recall website and/or give them a call at 775-851-2686. Great product.
Anyway, we hope you like ’em (videos).
Editor’s Note: The tactical eyewear (a.k.a. tactical eye protection a.k.a. tactical eyepro) featured in the first two videos (and being worn by David Crane) is the Oakley M Frame Strike a.k.a. "Strike Array".
