DefenseReview (DR) has been covering the FERFRANS SOAR (DGI, or Direct Gas Impingement) and FERFRANS SOAR-P (Piston) (short-stroke gas piston op-rod) select-fire/full-auto 5.56mm NATO (5.56x45mm NATO)/.223 Rem. tactical AR SBRs (Short Barreled Rifles)/sub-carbines for a number of years, now, and for good reason. In our opinion, the Ferfrans SOAR and SOAR-P are, hands down, the most badass little select-fire/full-auto 5.56mm SBRs on the planet, period. In fact, if for some reason we had to take a (complete) gun or upper receiver of this type into battle (military combat) anywhere in the world, we would choose a FERFRANS gun (SBR or carbine), each time, every time. Understand that we’ve put thousands of rounds through the Ferfrans guns on full-auto, and there’s simply no other select-fire/full-auto 5.56mm SBR or carbine that we trust as much for reliable and controllable high-round-count full-auto shooting in a combat environment–not even close.
And, now that Ferfrans is manufacturing 300BLK (300 AAC Blackout) guns and AR uppers, the same goes for those, too. FERFRANS Specialties is a very special company, run by very special people, making truly superlative products for real-world infantry warfare and military Special Operations combat applications and missions, particularly those involving dynamic CQB/CQC (Close Quarters Battle/Close Quarters Combat) gunfighting and urban warfare scenarios.
So, when we recently found out that FERFRANS Specialties (FF) is now offering one of their unique tactical AR accessories, specifically the Ferfrans CQB Modular Muzzle Brake System with Concussion Reduction Device (MMBS with CRD), to the civilian tactical shooting market for civilian-legal semi-auto-only AR-15 carbines/SBRs, we couldn’t have been more delighted. The Ferfrans MMBS combines the company’s proprietary recoil-reducing FF Muzzle Brake Mount (which the company designed specifically to integrate with the patented Ferfrans DSAS/RRS (Delayed Sear Activation System/Rate Reduction System) bolt carrier group (BCG) to make the Ferfrans guns as controllable as possible on full auto) with the recently-developed, and very interesting, FF Concussion Reduction Device (CRD), which reduces the brake’s muzzle blast and redirects it forward. This gives the shooter all muzzle brake’s benefits without it’s normal negative aspects caused by increased muzzle blast (side blast) and sound signature.
The CRD attaches quickly to the Muzzle Brake Mount via a quick-attach/quick-detach (QA/QD) mechanism, so it’s easy-breazy to use. Once installed you can go right into prone or modified prone in a dirt or sand environment and start shooting at the enemy without creating a blinding, physically scathing dust storm around you and your teammates, and getting hit with a face-full of ground shot after shot. It will also keep anyone to the side of you from getting muzzle blast and/or dirt/sand/dust in the face. Blast goes forward, dust/debris goes forward–AWAY from you. Pretty cool.
The Ferfrans CQB MMBS with CRD is now available to civilian tactical shooters through another great company, Rainier Arms, which co-developed the excellent Rainier Raptor Ambi Charging Handle with AXTS Weapons Systems, and carries a lot of premium tactical AR-15 guns, components and parts. You can now ad Ferfrans Specialties to that premium product list.
Defense Review recommends that you check out the two short videos below, when you have a couple minutes, as they aptly demonstrate the Ferfrans CQB MMBS with CRD’s advantages and capabilities.
