This one just came off The Drudge Report wire. Apparently, Israel Military Industries (IMI) has just developed a bulletproof/bullet-resistant grenade (defensive grenade?) that won't explode when you shoot it. That's good news for Israel Defense Forces (IDF) assaulter/operators who want to wear and employ them in combat. The new grenade will most likely be put to the test very soon against Hezbollah forces on the Israeli border when war breaks out between Israel and Iran.
The new grenade will be easier and safer to transport and store, since it's so much more stable and rugged. For now, the Israelis are staying mum on how the grenade accomplishes its bullet resistance.
A senior IMI official named Moshe Elert was quoted saying that the new grenade's mechanism could save (Israeli) soldiers' lives.
DefenseReview will try to find out just how bullet-resistant the new IMI grenade is. What rounds will it stop (7.62x39mm? 7.62x54R?) at what distance? What’s the kill radius? What’s the per-unit cost?
