In addition to co-witnessing your MagPul Flip-Up Sights a.k.a. Flip-Up BUIS (Back-Up Iron Sight) System with your Aimpoint CompM4, Aimpoint Micro T-1, EOTech 550-series HWS (Holographic Weapon Sight), Trijicon ACOG series, or Insight Technology/Insight Tech-Gear ISM-IR or ISM-V combat optic (optical combat sight a.k.a. optical weapons sight a.k.a. optical sight), you might also want to co-witness an Insight Technology/Insight Tech-Gear CNVD-T (Clip-On Thermal Sight) Thermal/IR (Infrared) Weapons Sight if you’re operating during night operations and/or in adverse weather conditions.

DefenseReview got the opportunity to examine the and photograph the CNVD-T (Clip-On Thermal Sight) and another Insight Technology/Insight Tech-Gear product, the MTM (Mini Thermal Monocular), at the Insight Technology/Insight Tech-Gear booth in the military/law enforcement section at SHOT Show 2009. While we photographed both products, our…

photos of the CNVD-T didn’t come out all that great, so we’re relying on Chen Lee’s a.k.a. "SMGLee’s" of the CNVD-T for this article. We’re showing our photos of the MTM in addition to Chen’s photos of the CNVD-T (Clip-On Thermal Sight) thermal/IR weapons sight because they show some of both products’ capabilities vis-a-vis thermal/IR imaging.

Insight had an MTM (Mini-Thermal Monocular) hooked up to both large and small video monitors, so it allowed us to show the hardware’s/technology’s capabilities photographically. The MTM was an ideal photographic-subject subsititute for the CNVD-T, since it has some similar capabilities to the CNVD-T. Insight Tech-Gear’s marketing director for First Responder, national security, and commercial business sectors, Paul Erhardt, formerly of SIG SAUER a.k.a. SIGARMS (marketing director) was kind enough to spend some time with us, take us through the MTM, and allow us to photograph it.

CNVD-T (Clip-On Thermal Sight) Thermal/IR Weapon Sight Specifications::

As you can see from the accompanying photos, the MTM (Mini Thermal Monocular) and CNVD-T Clip-On Thermal/IR Weapons Sight can display images in either "black-hot" image or "white-hot" format, depending on what the operator prefers for target identification, tracking, and engagement. The CNVD-T has been tested on weapons up to .50 BMG (.50 Cal.), and it’s our understanding that it can broadcast its image to a video monitor just like the MTM can, but DefenseReview doesn’t yet know the broadcasting/frequency specs or range limit, yet. When we find out, we’ll update this article, accordingly.

In the meantime, enjoy the photos.
