And now for a little breakdown ballistic badassery, boys and girls. While DefenseReview (DR) was roaming the hall at NDIA SOFIC 2014 (Special Operations Forces Industry Conference 2014), we stopped by the Remington Defense booth to view and handle their latest and greatest ballistic wonder gun, the Remington Defense CSR (Conealable Sniper Rifle) ‘Rucksack Rifle’, which is a lightweight, compact 7.62x51mm NATO/.308 Winchester bolt-action breakdown/takedown suppressed sniper carbine with 14″-16″ Proof Research carbon fiber-wrapped barrel. Designed specifically as a manpackable little long-range-interdiction/sniper weapon for Military Special Operations Forces (SOF) at minimal weight, the Remington CSR Rucksack Rifle really comes across as something special when you see and handle it.
The Remington Defense CSR takedown sniper carbine’s custom-designed Pelican tactical pack (backpack) is provided by the good folks at Pelican Case. The pack looks like the Pelican S115 Sport Elite Laptop/Camera Pro Pack (from its picture), but DR isn’t sure. We’re frankly just guessing. Deploying the weapon from the pack is easy-peasy, as the large pieces can be put together pretty quick, which is nice, especially if you happen to spot an enemy combatant while you’re hiking around in Stan (Afghanistan). As you can see from the accompanying photos and video the carbine breaks down into only three (3) pieces for transport, four (4) if you feel the need to remove the folding/telescoping buttstock–but why the hell would you want to do that? Why make life harder than it already is, right? So, keep the friggin’ stock on. Oh, and the Pelican Case tactical pack sports a yellow interior for easy policing of the interior.
You can see just how leightweight the gun (within 8 lbs?) is from the photos of your humble DR correspondent holding it and smiling for the camera. A major part of of the CSR Rucksack Rifle’s lightweight footprint, of course, is the result of the aforementioned 14″-16″ Proof Research carbon-fiber-wrapped barrel, which is pretty slick. We think think the one that was on the gun at SOFIC was actually 14″ for maximum manpackability for military assaulters/operators, but we’ll ask. The 16″ civilian-legal-length barrel will be availabe for the civilian tactical shooting masses. Barrel twist rate is a reported 1:8″ twist. Regardless of the length, the barrel looks (and feels) good, real good. DR likey. Proof Research is makin’ some really bangin’ (pun intended) stuff over there, and we just hope they keep doin’ what they’re doin’, ’cause they appear to be doin’ it just right. The proof is in the performance, though, so we hope to get the Remington CSR to the range at some point, and run it with some Remington and PNW Arms premium 7.62mm NATO ammo, soon.
Speaking of shooting, the Remington CSR manpackable takedown sniper carbine is designed to be run suppressed, no doubt with an Advanced Armament Corp. (AAC) muzzle can (silencer sound suppressor), most likely an AAC SR-7 Fast-Attach 7.62 Silencer/Suppressor, since both Remington and AAC are owned by Freedom Group.
Defense Review really likes this gun. We want one.
