DefenseReview (DR) just received a press release on the Revision Military Sawfly Photochromic Eyewear System tactical eye pro, which looks pretty cool, and will be displayed at Booth 26011 at SHOT Show 2012. The photochromic (same thing as photochromatic) technology’s main claim to fame is that it obviates/eliminates the need to switch lenses when transitioning between indoor and outdoor/daytime and nighttime (i.e. light and dark) conditions/environments, since the lenses automatically darkens and lightens, depending on the lighting conditions.
“Revision’s photochromic lens technology not only eliminates the need to switch lenses when transitioning between the indoors and outside, but also automatically adjusts to compensate for varying outdoor light levels allowing the end user to focus on his mission, not his eyepro,” says Jonathan Blanshay, CEO of Revision. The lenses only take 60 second to go from their darkest state to their lightest state (which is almost clear), and only 20 seconds to go from the clear state to a light-grey lens capable of blocking sun glare. According to Revision Military, this is almost twice as fast as their competitors’ photochromic lenses.
The Revision Military Sawfly Photochromic Eyewear System tactical eyepro “exceeds ANSI Z87.1-2010 and U.S. military ballistic impact requirements for spectacles (MIL-PRF-31013 clause 3.5.1.1) while providing flawless optics and 100% UV protection” and retails for $149.99 USD. The system is also Rx-ready with Revisions optional Rx Carrier.

PHOTOCHROMIC LENS FUNCTIONALITY
Revision’s photochromic lenses transition from 16% light transmittance at its darkest state to 66% clear in a minute. In 20 seconds it will change from its clearest state (77% light transmittance) to approximately half of its darkest state.*
Photochromic LT** values range from 16 – 77%; automatically adjusts to light conditions to provide a clear lens in low/overcast light and a solar tint in bright, sunlit conditions
* Testing conditions, room temperature 23 C, 90 seconds exposure in UV light
