Speaking of Silver State Armory (SSA) rifle ammo, DefenseReview (DR) took some photos of some specialized tungsten carbide-core SSA SLAP (Sabot Light Armor Penetrator) armor-piercing (AP) rounds in 5.56mm NATO (5.56x45mm NATO)/.223 Rem., 7.62mm NATO (7.62x51mm NATO)/.308 Win. and aforementioned 6.8 SPC (6.8x43mm SPC) calibers at SHOT Show 2013–and it is BADASS. DR had never seen a 6.8 SPC SLAP round before, and we liked what we saw. We REALLY liked it. The only two caveats to the SSA SLAP ammo are that it's Mil/LE (Military and Law Enforcement)-only, and we've been told that SSA's new parent company, Nosler, didn't acquire the rights to it when they acquired SSA.
So, the rights to the SSA SLAP ammo we photographed at SHOT apparently still belongs to SSA's old parent company, Modern Arms Company (MAC). And we're not sure who's running that outfit, these days, or even if there's still an outfit to be run. Regardless, the ammo's too cool not to show, and is indicative of Silver State Armory's innovative, cutting-edge-performance spirit, which Defense Review hopes is maintained under the new ownership.
DR doesn't yet have the performance specs on the ammo, but it's pretty impressive according to our source. We've been told the SSA 5.56mm NATO and 7.62mm NATO SLAP ammo will significantly outperform the M995 and M993 AP ammo respectively, which is to be expected with a SLAP round.
