As long as we’re discussing the latest and greatest Wilcox Industries laser aimer/illuminators for M4/M4A1/AR-15 Carbine/SBR’s, we should probably also touch on the Wilcox RAID (Ruggedized Aiming/Illumination Device) VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser) visible/IR laser aimer/illuminator module, which Wilcox’s Travis Mitchell also showed DefenseReview (DR) at SHOT Show 2017. The Wilcox RAID’s main claim to fame is that it’s much smaller and lighter than the legacy laser aimer/illuminator (ATPIAL (AN/PEQ-15) – Advanced Target Pointe/Illuminator/Aiming Laser). The super-compact RAID weighs in at only 5oz (142g).

The Wilcox RAID’s second claim to fame is the aforementioned VCSEL laser/illuminator technology, that provides a “clean, pure beam, almost like a SureFire Torch, instead of having a big circle, then amoebas when you’re looking at it with your night vision,” according to Mitchell.

So, what does DR think about the RAID? DR digs it. Just like the Wilcox BOSS 300, the RAID looks really well designed, and very rugged.

The Wilcox RAID (Ruggedized Aiming/Illumination Device) offers a smaller size, lighter weight, and superior performance. Powered by one (1) CR123 3V battery, the RAID features a red visible laser, infrared (IR) laser and variable IR illuminator all co-aligned with one windage and elevation adjustment. Aside from size and weight reduction, the RAID boasts ultimate beam clarity and uniformity aiding in target identification and situational awareness. An ergonomically located focus wheel allows on the fly adjustment of the IR illuminator with three power modes to adjust laser settings from low, medium or high power for various distances and mission requirements. The RAID securely mounts low-profile to 1913 style picatinny rails using two thumb screws without interfering with optics or iron sights. Available in Black or Tan.
